KIP BEDELL

I grew up in West Hempstead, Long Island and from an early age I spent parts of the summers at my grandparent's house in Mattituck on the North Fork, overlooking Peconic Bay. It was here that I first started appreciating the beauty of the East End. The land is surrounded by water, with the Long Island Sound to the North and Peconic Bay to the south, and much of the land remains in farming.

I started painting in high school and continued throughout college. I had brief thoughts of majoring in Art but soon changed to business and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. During my middle years I didn't have much time for painting (Army, family, running two companies, etc) but as I neared retirement there was finally time to get back to art. I jumped in with both feet. For the last 35 years of my working career I owned(along with my wife) Bedell Cellars Winery where my artistic instincts were instrumental in creating our award-winning wines. Now retired, I'm plowing all that creativity into my paintings.

Most of my paintings reflect my surroundings, water, boats and farm fields. I usually start with a photo, than a sketch and finally the painting. My mediums are mostly Acrylics and Acrylic Resin.
